Is your Shopify store ready for AI-driven shopping?

AI assistants, shopping agents, and new search surfaces are sending traffic to stores that are crawlable, machine-readable, and answer-ready. The free Shopify AI Commerce Readiness Audit tells you exactly where yours stands — and what to fix first.

Built from real Shopify systems

Not an AI SEO toy. A commerce-readiness system.

Honeybound builds and operates Shopify apps across attribution, search, subscriptions, and catalog infrastructure. The audit focuses on signals that matter to commerce teams: crawlability, structured product data, AI discovery context, policy clarity, and measurement readiness.

Crawl access

robots.txt, sitemap references, search crawler access, and whether product/collection paths are accidentally blocked for AI agents.

AI discovery files

llms.txt, llms-full.txt, agents.md, Shopify llms.txt → agents.md redirects, and optional /.well-known/ucp discovery so assistants know which pages matter.

Commerce readiness

Product JSON-LD, product URLs, policy/contact links, variant clarity, answer-ready content, and attribution gaps for AI-referred traffic.

Sample report

Here's what a typical report looks like.

Every audit returns a weighted score, a breakdown by category, and a prioritized fix list — the changes that move the needle first.

AI Commerce score B+ 78 / 100
robots.txt allows AI search agents (OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot)
Sitemap.xml submitted and referenced in robots.txt
Product JSON-LD present on product pages
Policy and contact pages linked in footer
llms.txt present and curated critical · −15 pts
agents.md discovery file high · −7 pts
AI attribution readiness (UTM coverage for AI referrers) medium · −4 pts
FAQ structured data (FAQPage schema) medium · −3 pts

Crawler policy, not crawler panic

Make an intentional crawler policy.

The audit does not tell merchants to allow every AI crawler. It separates answer/search crawlers from training crawlers, flags accidental blanket blocks, and helps you decide what should be discoverable.

  • Allow discovery on purpose: product, collection, blog, and policy pages should be crawlable when visibility matters.
  • Control training deliberately: GPTBot, CCBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, and similar agents can be a brand/IP decision.
  • Give agents context: curated llms.txt and agents.md files point assistants at canonical pages instead of making them guess. If Shopify redirects /llms.txt to /agents.md, treat agents.md as the practical source of truth and make it merchant-specific.
What Honeybound fixes

The most common gaps — and what a cleanup looks like.

Most Shopify stores have the same few failure modes: generic discovery files, messy product schema, unclear crawler policy, and attribution that loses the source before purchase. Here's what we actually implement and roughly how long each takes.

robots.txt policy

1–2 hrs

Review and update your robots.txt so AI search agents (OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot) can crawl product and collection pages — while you control training crawlers separately.

AI discovery files

2–4 hrs

Write and publish curated AI instructions that point assistants at your catalog, policies, and best-answer pages. If /llms.txt redirects to /agents.md, tune agents.md first and keep llms.txt behavior documented.

Product structured data

4–8 hrs

Add or repair Product JSON-LD on product pages: name, price, availability, images, reviews, and brand. Audit-verified against Google's validator.

FAQ content and schema

4–8 hrs

Add answer-ready FAQ sections to product and collection pages with FAQPage JSON-LD so assistants can return direct answers that cite your store.

AI attribution setup

2–4 hrs

Instrument UTM parameters for AI referral sources (Perplexity, ChatGPT, Claude) and set up tracking so you can measure traffic and conversions from AI surfaces.

Sitemap and crawl path

1–3 hrs

Validate sitemap.xml completeness, fix broken references, and ensure product and collection URLs are crawlable end-to-end.
